Dr. Larnzy L. Carpenter, Jr. began serving as Pastor of First Baptist Church of Longview in July 2001. He has a sincere love for God and compassion for all people. He also demonstrates his untiring service to the community. He believes in the five-fold ministry. (Ephesians 4:11-13) "11. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:"
During his pastorship, he has engaged in several avenues of theological studies. These studies have lead to the receipt of several degrees in theology, including a doctoral degree. He has served in law enforcement and served in the United States Marine Corps. He wears many other hats in servanthood through teaching, outreach, chaplain services and many other areas. He currently serves as Oktibbeha County Justice Court Judge of District 2. He is also moderator of the Whitefield District Association.
Currently, he is leading First Baptist Church of Longview into new areas of growth as God gives him vision. The church has expanded in leadership, membership, fellowship, and spiritual growth under his leadership. The church has also seen the implementation of several new ministries under his direction.
He is a native of Starkville, MS and is married to Melita L. Herbert of Washington, D.C. They have two sons. Larnzy L. Carpenter, III and Landon Carpenter, two grandchildren, Eli and Remi Carpenter.
